Chris, I agree about the 800's! Ouch! My schedule said 2 x 800 and/or 2 x 400 for Tuesday. I opted for "and" so mine were 3:39, 3:43, then 3:39 rest, and 1:46 and 1:48. I'd like to see whether my times at WMF are different than Beaty track. It was rainy and wet Tuesday a.m., so I found myself weaving around puddles or mud holes. I feel faster, but we'll find out Saturday at the Cinco....
Nice job to both of you. I wish I were running more. The biking and swimming are taking from my normal "running" time. But the specificity of training is important for all of us!
I promise you that even though they are tough, it will pay dividends. Those are good times (7:10 to 7:28 per mile).
As for Beaty track vs WMF,...... there is certainly a difference in running Beaty. It is hard to run fast and not worry about turning an ankle! All things being equal, you are expending more energy/effort at Beaty to run a similar time at WMF.
I think my results yesterday may be a good sign. I didn't meet my goal of an 8:00 pace but ended up 40:37 so I'm really happy with that. I placed better than usual. My sister-in-law Jenny Dilks ran with me and pushed me so I know that helped. Should I work on negative splits? My miles were 7:53, 8:00, 8:11, 8:12, and 8:21. Last year at 10k I went way too hard and cramped at the turnaround. I walked a 13 minute mile 4 and when the cramps subsided, I had solid 8 minute miles to the finish. Don't want that to happen again but I'm not sure my results show I've learned my lesson yet!
